The Department of State Services (DSS) claims to have discovered preparations by some groups in several regions of the nation to organise violent demonstrations in an effort to cast doubt on the security services and the federal government over a variety of socioeconomic issues.
In an early Monday statement, the agency’s spokesman Peter Afunanya raised the alarm, claimed that the DSS has identified the plot’s ringleaders.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) hereby informs the public that it has uncovered plans by some elements in some parts of the country to stage violent protests in order to discredit the Federal Government and security agencies over various socioeconomic issues,” the statement read.

According to intelligence assessments, the plotters include some politicians who are desperately trying to assemble unwitting student leaders, ethnic-based organisations, young people, and disaffected groups for the intended action.

“Meanwhile, the Service has identified the ring leaders of the plot as well as sustained monitoring around them in order to deter them from plunging the country into anarchy,” the statement continued.

In light of this development, the secret police gave vice chancellors of universities and heads of tertiary institutions orders to forbid their students from taking part in activities that would disturb the calm in the community.

According to the DSS, parents and guardians must advise their children and wards to fend off the urge to engage in illegal behaviour or conduct.

“Also, parents and guardians are urged to warn their children and wards to resist the temptation to engage in unlawful behaviour or conduct, the agency stated.

While the DSS is aware of the Government’s initiatives and resolve to address some of the issues facing the country, it cautions anybody wishing to compromise national security to go back their previous steps. This is more so that it won’t hesitate to take legal action against the individuals and groups responsible for the cunning plot.

It issued a warning that it would not think twice about pursuing legal action against the individuals and organisations behind the cunning plans.
