Sources have accused the senator representing Ogun East in the National Assembly, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (OGD), of plotting to “crush” and set political booby traps that will embarrass the Secretary to the Government of Ogun State, Olatokunbo Joseph Talabi.
According to Western Post, the senator is convinced that the SSG is the brain behind his woes.
Sources privy to the plan told the publication that Gbenga Daniel made the program known to some of his allies at a recent gathering.
The issue started when Daniel became apprehensive of the growing profile of the SSG, especially when it was perceived that he might be eyeing the senatorial seat he is currently occupying.
Several damning but spurious soft-sell publications were launched “castigating Governor Dapo Abiodun for allowing a neophyte apolitical person to will such power and influence in the state.”
The dogs of war were called off when it was clear that the gentleman was not in the race for the Senate seat.
However, now that open hostilities have resumed between Governor Dapo Abiodun and OGD in the aftermath of allegations of the anti-party posture of OGD, the Senator is convinced that the SSG is the brain behind the onslaught on him.
The former governor of Ogun State decided to amass weapons of propaganda and “take down” Talabi because of the latter’s perceived rising influence in the politics and power structures in Ogun State, a development that the ex-governor believes threatens his political relevance and agenda.
According to the sources, Daniel believes that Talabi, a fellow kinsman from Ogun East senatorial district, is the brain behind the unmasking of his (Daniel’s) anti-party activities in the state, which have pitted him against Governor Abiodun and the party.
“We will start to see sponsored articles and publications against the person of Tokunbo Talabi in the media,” a Western Post source said.
The sources alleged that the need to crush the SSG is now the top priority for the embattled senator because of recent occurrences, one of which may not be unconnected to the alleged treatment received by the senator during the visit of the President.
Observers at the event noted that the Senator was seen in an argument with the Awujale, the paramount ruler of Ijebuland.
This almost resulted in the paramount ruler instructing Daniel to leave his residence.
Sources familiar with Daniel’s campaign to justify and repair his public image advised that the SSG should be careful and improve the security arrangement around him from now on.
