Agba Jalingo, the publisher of CrossRiverWatch, a news platform in Cross River State, has been remanded in the Kuje prison for three days, from Monday to Thursday.
Charged with cybercrime, Jalingo was remanded by Justice Zainab Abubakar of the Federal High Court, Abuja.
Jalingo had written that a sister-in-law of Ben Ayade, the Governor of Cross River State, engaged in examination malpractice, prompting an accusation of character defamation. According to him, someone wrote law school exams for the wife of Governor Ayade’s younger brother, Frank Ayade.
Jalingo also raised the alarm in a report that the Ayades, together with the police, were suppressing him with frequent arrests and threatening to arrest his CrossRiverWatch staff members.
