Anambra 2021: Wave of Defections Hit APGA

With less than one month to the governorship election in Anambra State, the ruling party in the state, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has suffered yet another wave of defections that could adversely affect the party’s chances of retaining the governorship seat in the state

The APGA members including the Governor’s SSAs, the State Youth Leader and hundreds of party members dumped the ruling party in the state and pitched tent with Valentine Ozigbo, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, boosting his chances of winning the election.

The All Progressives Grand Alliance decampees, led by Comrade Magnus Eziokwu, State Youth Leader, and was welcomed into the Peoples Democratic Party by Valentine Ozigbo; Chief Ndubuisi Nwobu, Chairman of the PDP in Anambra State; Mrs Azuka Enemo, Deputy Governorship candidate and Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State and several other PDP leaders.

Welcoming the new entrants at the ceremony held at Delta State Government House, Asaba, Ozigbo hailed their courage for rejecting what he described as a failed party and government, especially at this time that the state needs them to stand up and be heard the most, noting that their decision was significant as it was an evidence of the prevalent sentiments of the majority of Ndi-Anambra.

In his address, Chief Nwobu, Chairman of the PDP in Anambra State, expressed excitement at receiving the decampees into the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and assured them that they will be fully integrated into the party’s structure and work together to achieve victory in the forthcoming November 2021 governorship election in the state.

In a related development, indigenes of Anambra State residing in Delta State have hosted and endorsed the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Mr Valentine Ozigbo.

Speaking during the event, Mr Victor Mbanefo, President General of Anambra State town unions in Delta State said though they are not a partisan association, but were concerned about the current state of affairs in Anambra state and the need for somebody who will redeem the image of the state, which he said has been found in the person of Mr Valentine Ozigbo.

Similarly, Chief Chinedu Obodo, the Chairman of the Igbo Forum in Asaba, noted that Valentine Ozigbo had excelled everywhere he worked and was best positioned to govern Anambra State.
