FACT: Justice Salami Was Indicted By NJC For Lying Under Oath, Not Fired By Goodluck Jonathan

Justice Salami (rtd) Was Indicted By NJC For Lying Under Oath.

Supporters of Nigeria’s failed President, Muhammadu Buhari in attempt to justify the executive recklessness of Buhari and his ordering the CJN, Justice Onnoghen To resign are claiming that Jonathan’s Govt sacked retired Justice Salami. Below are the facts.

Straight to the point.
The NJC following the review of their two investigative reports indicted the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Isa Ayo Salami for lying under oath.

A 5-man probe panel headed by a former President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Abdullahi Umaru, found Salami guilty of perjury and judicial misconduct.

The probe panel revealed that the allegations Salami raised against the then (CJN), Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, ab-initio, were false.

The first panel suggested outright sacking of Justice Salami immediately, however NJC members made a passionate appeal for a soft landing for Salami.

A second NJC probe panel of 3 Judges lead by Justice Ibrahim Auta confirmed the verdict of the 1st panel and added sanctions.

NJC in their review requested that Salami:

a) should be warned for his unethical conduct which eroded the public confidence in the integrity and impartiality of the Judiciary.

b) must apologise in writing to both the CJN, Hon. Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu, and NJC within a week (from 10/08/2011).

Justice Salami failed to apologise and headed to court. This was how NJC helped him to retirement.
His case and retirement have nothing to do with Jonathan’s Govt or in any way similar to Justice Onnoghen’s current saga.
