Adamawa Rerun: PDP’s Fintiri coasts to victory


The Adamawa State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umaru Fintiri is leading to victory over incumbent Governor Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the ongoing supplementary election in the state.

During the March 9 election that was later declared inconclusive, Mr Fintiri had polled 367,471 votes while Mr Bindow had 334,995.

The vote margin between the two contenders was 32,476 votes in favour of Mr Fintiri.

However, the number of ballots cancelled in the state stood at 40,988

It was on that basis that the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, declared the election as inconclusive.

Thursday’s rerun is holding in 44 Polling Units in 28 registration areas of the state.

According to reports by SaharaReporters, after results from 16 of the 44 polling units were collated, Mr Fintiri has further extended his lead by close to 3,000 votes, polling 3,271 against Mr Bindow’s 719.

However, as of the time of filing in this report, voting had ended in all polling units.
